Background to the GDE (T-L)
The GDE (T-L) was introduced in Queensland at Kelvin Grove
College of Advanced Education (now Queensland University of Technology)
in 1976. Originally, the course was located in the Department of School
Librarianship but is now part of the School of Cultural and Language Studies
in Education at Kelvin Grove Campus of QUT. After a process of peer consultation
and review, the current course was implemented in 1999. A major change
included the incorporation of technology as a mode of delivery of the units
(through an open learning and on-line approach) and as a significant element
of content in the units .
Masters in Learning Innovation
No new intake will occur into the GDE(T-L), but the course is now available through the Masters in Learning Innovation (T-L).
Currently there are three full-time
staff; additional expert staff are employed according to need. The
staff are committed to offering units which are professionally sound and
academically rigorous. Students are given support for their learning
through regular email correspondence and other forms of communication as
well as through substantial print and on-line resources. Regular staff-student
liaison is strongly encouraged to maximise learning and to build professional
relationships. Students are also encouraged to participate in student on-line
forums such as email lists, web forums and chat sessions via the unit homepages.
QUT is one of the key providers of a Masters level qualification in Teacher Librarianship in Australia.
This course is in the process of being recognised by ALIA (Australian Library and Information Accociation).
